* Your story on the potential MTA strike (Aug. 23) outlined the main issues at stake in the bargaining positions of either side. The issue you mentioned last is the real sticking point, and if MTA management gets its way there could be a devastating impact on consumers.
Transportation zones will mean different entities will sell bus tickets and fares. Under the current system (Foothill Bus Lines as an example) these fares are not transferable to MTA buses. Thus, riders would be faced with buying so-called combined passes or transfers in order to access the entire Metro system. These passes would cost more. We do not have an integrated transportation system. This was one of the prices we paid when RTD was abandoned and MTA created. I have watched many changes in my 23 years as a bus commuter. This would be one of the worst.
