Time is about to run out for the Irvine Ice Arena: Next week, the site’s landowner plans to padlock the rink and take possession of the land, an attorney for the property owner said.
Steve and Linda Coonan lost their lease on the property in February after falling behind on their monthly $24,000 rent. Newport Beach attorney Rick Augustini, who represents the landowner, said the rink owes as much as $600,000 in back lease payments.
The property, at 3400 Michelson Drive, is being bought by a fast-growing Jewish congregation that intends to use it as a synagogue.
