Jones, Green Help UCI Win Exhibition

Ben Jones scored 23 points and Jerry Green added 22 and seven assists to help UC Irvine defeat Simon Fraser, 93-76, in an exhibition men’s basketball game Sunday in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Green made nine of 13 from the field and had only one turnover in 31 minutes. Redshirt freshman Adam Parada had 15 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots for the Anteaters.

Irvine is 2-0 on its Canadian tour and plays a Victoria all-star team Wednesday in Victoria.

In nonconference women’s soccer:

USC 2, UC Irvine 0--USC freshman midfielder Megan Abbamonto, The Times’ Orange County Player of the Year last season, scored a first-half goal for the visiting Trojans (1-0).

Abbamonto, formerly of Capistrano Valley High, scored on a header off a corner kick from Isabelle Harvey 15 minutes into the game. Jessica Edwards added an unassisted goal from 20 yards late in the second half. The Trojans outshot Irvine, 16-5.
