Cardiac Science Adds 2 Board Directors

Cardiac Science Inc., an Irvine developer of external cardiac defibrillator devices and software, has named Brian H. Dovey and Robert Carpenter to its expanded board of directors.

Dovey is a general partner of Domain Associates, a venture capital management company focused on life sciences. He also serves on the board of trustees for the Coriell Institute and the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Since joining Domain in 1988, Dovey has served as chairman of Athena Neurosciences, Creative BioMolecules and Univax Biologics.

Carpenter is founder and president of Boston Medical Investors Inc., which makes investments in early-stage health care companies. Carpenter is also chairman of Geltex Pharmaceuticals and a director of Aquila Biopharmaceuticals, Genzyme, Transfusion Technologies Inc. and VitaResc AG. Carpenter was a director and one of the founders of Cadent Medical Corp., which was acquired by Cardiac Science in July 2000. He also was president and chief executive officer of Integrated Genetics, a biopharmaceutical firm, from 1981 to 1989, when it was merged with Genzyme Corp.

* Bill Boldt has been named vice president and general manager of Tustin-based TDK Semiconductor Corp.’s embedded systems business unit. He had been director of the unit.

* Ernest J. Abeytia has been named president and chief executive officer of Novalog Inc., a unit of Irvine Sensors Corp. in Costa Mesa. Abeytia, who joined Novalog in 1997 as chief operating officer, has more than 20 years of management experience, principally in the semiconductor industry.

* Amir Siddiqi has been promoted to regional vice president, Green Burrito operations for the Carl’s Jr./Green Burrito dual-brand restaurants of CKE Restaurants Inc. in Anaheim. Marchand Froschheuser becomes director, technical services. Siddiqi, who first joined Carl’s Jr. in 1985 as a crew person, has held various positions in restaurant operations. Most recently, he was a district manager in the Pomona and Inland Empire area. Froschheuser was with Clark Refining and Marketing for three years as technical support and operations manager. Additionally, she was the manager of business administration for NLGI in Kansas City, Mo.
