The Young Artists Ensemble is looking to fill more than 25 roles in the theater group’s teen production of “Flowers for Algernon,” running Feb. 23 through March 11 at the Arts Council Center in Thousand Oaks.

Auditions will be Dec. 9 and 10 at the arts center, 482 Greenmeadow Ave.

Auditions are by appointment only, but are open to anyone 13 to 19 years old, said Megan McDonough, a Young Artists Ensemble spokeswoman.

There are two additional roles for actors age 8 to 10.

Auditions will consist of cold readings and improvisation, McDonough said.

Rehearsals will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

While the group typically produces a blend of teen summer musicals and family shows throughout the year, this will be one of the first dramas in many years, she said.

The production will provide an opportunity for young actors to be in serious roles, McDonough said.

The play focuses on the life of Charlie Gordon, a mentally disabled man in search of himself.

The show will be directed by Preston Sparks.
