A teenage white supremacist who killed a 6-year-old black girl when he opened fire with an assault rifle on the home of a biracial family was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.

Jessy Roten, 19, was convicted last month of murdering Ashley Mance on April 3, 1999, and wounding her twin sister, Aleesha, and a 4-year-old half-sister when he fired into the St. Petersburg home.

Roten was found guilty of one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. The jury also ruled the shooting was a hate crime, which allows a longer sentence.
