Purdue’s Cooper Makes Herself at Home

Camille Cooper overcame her nerves in her homecoming Friday night.

Cooper, who played high school ball in nearby Georgetown, Ky., scored 13 points to help No. 6 Purdue (6-1) defeat Kentucky, 87-67, at Lexington.

The 6-foot-4 senior center also had five rebounds and blocked three shots in her first collegiate game in her home state.

“I was very nervous. My family and church were all here and it was really hard to remain focused,” Cooper said. “I don’t think I really ever settled down into my game for the whole 40 minutes.”

No. 19 Oklahoma 89, No. 13 SW Missouri State 82--Caton Hill had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Sooners at Norman, Okla.

Stacey Dales added 19 points for the Sooners (3-2), who were 18 for 18 from the free-throw line in the first half and finished 27 of 31. Jackie Stiles scored 23 of her 31 points in the second half for Southwest Missouri State.

No. 14 Auburn 89, Ball State 49--The Tigers (6-0) opened the second half with a 24-3 to take control at Tampa. Fla., in the first round of the South Florida Classic.

Carol Smith scored 20 points and LaRita Spencer added 15 for Auburn, which outscored Ball State (3-2), 44-17, in the second half.
