Police in Van Nuys have arrested six Birmingham High School students in connection with the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl who had passed out drunk at a “ditch party,” authorities said.

Los Angeles Police Det. Craig Rhudy said the unconscious girl was brought to a Woodland Hills hospital Friday evening suffering from “severe alcohol intoxication.”

A medical examination showed that she also had been a victim of a sexual assault, he said.

“Sexual assault detectives assigned to Van Nuys Operations Support Division determined that the victim was present at a ditch party in Van Nuys attended by about 15 students who were truant from class,” Rhudy said.

The party was at the home of one of the students, whose parents were at work, he said.

The girl drank alcoholic beverages until she passed out and “was then sexually assaulted by several male members of the party,” he said. Most of the juveniles have been identified as members of a local “taggers crew,” the detective said.

Police have arrested six youths, all 16 or 17, he said. The investigation is continuing, Rhudy said.
