OCMA Loses Another Director
Bowing out quietly from her post at the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, Director of Development Joan Van Hooten left the museum Dec. 4 to take a similar position closer to her home in Long Beach.
Van Hooten, who joined OCMA in 1997, was instrumental in raising money to underwrite most of the museum’s major exhibitions, including the current retrospective of Orange County’s Tony DeLap. Van Hooten also was responsible for grant writing, seeking funds for the museum’s education programming and other services.
About 70% of the museum’s $3.3-million budget comes from such underwriting, officials said.
Van Hooten worked with a staff of five, including a grant writer, and oversaw the membership and special events departments. She left on good terms, museum officials said.
Other departures in the last year include the museum’s directors of education and operations. OCMA recently named Randy Everett as facilities manager and Brian Boyer as installation designer to replace the operations director. The search for a chief curator continues.
Van Hooten joins the development and marketing department at the Public Corp. for the Arts in Long Beach on Jan. 8.
