Voices

The Ventura Master Chorale, under the direction of Burns Taft, will present holiday concerts Friday and Sunday at the San Buenaventura Mission in downtown Ventura. The theme of the performances is peace. Seasonal music of many cultures and styles will include works from the Renaissance period and contemporary works. Also, “Eclipse,” a composition by Taft, based on texts by Leo the Great and Diego Hurtado Mendoza, will be premiered.

Dance

The Ventura College Dance Performance Company will stage “Mystique: A Winter Solstice Celebration of Mythical Proportion” on Friday and Sunday at the campus theater. Guest artists include Middle Eastern dance specialist Natasya Katsikaris, accompanied by Daniel Eshoo on the Anatolian lute, and the Pure Joy Moving Company.

Parade of Lights

More than 35 vessels, decorated on the theme “2001: A Christmas Odyssey,” will highlight the annual Ventura Harbor Parade of Lights on Saturday. Participating boats and other craft will make two laps around the harbor. There will also be music, arts and crafts, caroling and family activities.

Soul-Ful

Julie Christensen will sing works from her recently released album, “Soul Driver,” Saturday in Ojai. Christensen has earned kudos for her deft handling of various styles, including soul, jazz and pop. The Ojai-based singer will be backed by her band, Stone Cupid.
