District Workers Get Contract

Share

The Los Angeles Unified School District and the union representing about 1,500 skilled crafts workers have agreed on a tentative 2-year contract providing for a nearly 14% pay and benefit increase, district officials said.

The agreement would give members of the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council a 6% raise retroactive to July 1 and add to the permanent salary schedule a 2% bonus paid last year. It also would maintain current health and welfare benefits at a cost of about 1.8%.

A 4% salary and benefits increase would be paid next year.

Before taking effect, the agreement must be ratified by the union membership and approved by the Board of Education.

The union represents carpenters, electricians, painters and other trade workers.

Negotiations continue between the district and unions representing teachers, administrators, school police, office and business services workers, and classified supervisors.
