3,000 Children Get Free Toys at Holiday Festival

About 3,000 children received free toys Friday night at an event where they learned about different holidays, organizers said.

The sixth annual event is meant to teach children about Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, said David Valencia, a board member with New Horizons Family Center, where the festivities took place. The nonprofit organization provides day care and counseling services and after-school programs.

Workers at booths provided children with information about the various holidays, he said. The kids also received free hot dogs and visited with Santa Claus.

“We believe in children; that’s where we have to start to better this world,” Valencia said. “[The event] allows us to unite different cultures.”
