Rams Are Hoping for a Return Engagement

Times NFL writer Robyn Norwood poses--and answers--the burning questions for this week’s games:

1. Question: Any chance this won’t be the Rams’ only game at Raymond James Stadium?

A: St. Louis can make the playoffs with a victory over Tampa Bay, giving the Rams at least a chance of reaching the Super Bowl Jan. 28 at Raymond James. Lose, and the defending champions are scrambling to reach the postseason.

2. Q: Ain’t it grand?

A: The New Orleans Saints are ‘Aints no more. With a victory over Atlanta and a loss by St. Louis, they clinch the NFC West.

As long as they win, they still clinch a playoff berth if Tampa Bay loses to St. Louis, or Detroit loses or ties.

3. Q: Shouldn’t Jerry Rice go ahead and retire as a 49er?

A: Sentimentality aside, it’s amazing people feel such a right to moralize about someone else’s career.

4. Q: Colts or dolts?

A: An Indianapolis loss against Miami would end the playoff hopes of one of the preseason Super Bowl favorites. Even if they win, the Colts have to beat Minnesota in their finale and either the Dolphins or the Jets must lose their final two.

5. Q: Who should Cade McNown be thanking?

A: The NFL schedule-makers. He returns as the Chicago Bears’ quarterback for the final two games, and both are on the road, denying Bear fans a chance to express their derision.
