No. 1 Aliso Niguel Defeats Tritons

Kelli Neckel and Kim Devine scored second-half goals 10 minutes apart to break a scoreless tie and lift Aliso Niguel, the top-ranked team in Orange County, to a 2-0 victory over No. 5 San Clemente Tuesday at Aliso Niguel.

Wolverine goalkeeper Erin Clark, starting in place of injured starter Marissa Welliver, made four saves to record the shutout.

Aly Berger made 11 saves for San Clemente (3-1-2). Aliso Niguel is 8-0-1.

In another nonleague game:

Cypress 1, Troy 0--Amira Ebel’s goal in the 60th minute was the game-winner for Cypress (6-3) and Adrienne Casillas made 12 saves for her fifth shutout.

In the Ocean View tournament:

Mater Dei 1, Irvine 1 (Mater Dei won on penalty kicks, 3-1)--Mater Dei’s Angela Reling scored in the sixth minute to give the Monarchs (6-4-2) an early 1-0 lead in the fifth-place game. Irvine’s Kim Tiampo scored the tying goal early in the second half.

In the Bullhead City (Ariz.) boys’ basketball tournament:

No. 4 El Toro 74, Green Mountain (Colo.) 71--Ashkan Nazeri made four free throws in the last minute to lead El Toro (13-0) into the semifinals. Nazeri finished with 23 points and Matt Green had 22 points and 12 rebounds for El Toro.

Magnolia 73, San Diego Mar Vista 59--Geoffrey Clayton scored 44 points for Magnolia (5-8). He scored 27 points in the second half, including 20 in the fourth quarter, and made 14 consecutive free throws.

In the first round of the Irvine World News tournament:

Fountain Valley 77, Laguna Beach 54--Tucker Fendon had 17 points, Matt Ball 16 points and eight rebounds for Fountain Valley.

Will Blodgett had 26 points for Laguna Beach.

Irvine 69, La Quinta 41--Jorian Guinn made four three-pointers and scored 20 points for Irvine (6-2).

Northwood 72, Mira Loma Jurupa Valley 58--Rob Selway scored 20 points for Northwood (7-1).

No. 7 Woodbridge 73, Huntington Beach 42--Danny Lambert and Tashaan Forehan-Kelly had 17 points each for Woodbridge (7-2).

No. 10 Newport Harbor 74, Edison 63--Newport Harbor’s Greg Perrine and Aaron Yarnal scored 24 points each and Tony Melum added 23 for the Sailors (9-3).

In the second round of the Lakewood Artesia girls’ basketball tournament:

Northwood 36, Newport Harbor 31 (OT)--Northwood’s Tevin Bertanian scored on a layup as regulation time expired, then the Timberwolves outscored Newport Harbor, 7-2, in the overtime to advance. Elmira Rezaei led Northwood (4-4) with 19 points.

No. 4 Rosary 54, Long Beach Wilson 50--Gayle Sonoda scored seven of her 10 points in the fourth quarter, as Rosary outscored Wilson, 20-9, to erase a seven-point deficit. Jenise Karcher scored 15 points and Jen Farner had 12 for the Royals (9-0).

No. 1 Troy 90, Long Beach Jordan 31--Alicia Komaki had 25 points, and Amanda Livingston had 10 rebounds, seven assists and six steals for Troy (6-1).

In the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions:

No. 8 Edison 59, Arroyo Grande 43--Bianca Ziemann had 29 points and Kristen Chidley had 13 points for Edison (6-2) in the first round. The Chargers played without starting shooting guard Rachel Ziemann, twin sister of Bianca, who did not play because of a strained groin muscle.

In the first round of the Brea Olinda boys’ soccer tournament:

No. 8 Dana Hills 5, Villa Park 0--Stephen Jennings scored two first-half goals and Chris Klotz added a goal and two assists for Dana Hills (5-0-2).

Fullerton 2, Servite 1--Fernando Estrada scored both goals for Fullerton (3-3).

In the Magnolia tournament:

Loara 5, Rancho Alamitos 2--Christian Rus had three goals for Loara (2-3).

In a nonleague game:

El Toro 1, Northwood 0--El Toro’s Doug Franco scored in the 47th minute off a corner kick. The Chargers’ Todd Giese made three saves for the shutout.

In nonleague girls’ water polo:

No. 6 Marina 7, Villa Park 5--Cara Chlebicki had three goals, three steals, and three drawn ejections to lead the Vikings (2-3). Kendra Shanley had two goals and Bree Valbuena had nine saves.

Cindy Henn scored two goals for Villa Park (6-7).

No. 10 San Clemente 6, University 4--Kristi Peters scored three goals and Courtney Thom added a goal and two assists for San Clemente (11-1). University is 4-4.
