MADD Volunteers Help at Checkpoints

Members of Mothers Against Drunk Driving last week volunteered at seven Orange County license and sobriety checkpoints, passing out literature on the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol.

About 20 volunteers spent four to six hours throughout the late evening in cities such as La Habra, Garden Grove, Laguna Niguel and Irvine.

“Our duties vary a little bit from department to department, depending on what they ask of us,” said Reidel Post, executive director of MADD Orange County. “It’s mostly to lend moral support to the officers to let them know that the community supports them.”

Additionally, the volunteers expect to assist officers this weekend and the final weekend of 2000 at various checkpoints.
