Restrictions on Nudity

* Re “Loophole in Nudity Law? Simi’s Got It Covered,” Dec. 18.

So Simi Valley is falling all over itself devising a bulletproof law to put one mentally impaired man in jail?

It’s apparent that a handful of citizens, a substantial number of government officials and police have way too much time on their hands.

The next time a mentally challenged person walks down the street nude, why not simply look the other way if the sight offends?

And if they are afraid that the sight will cause their children to become morally corrupt, I suggest that they never let those children go to beaches in Europe.

What evidence does the city attorney have that public nudity has anything to do with “safety, order, decency and morality?”

The police like to have such laws just in case they need them--not because there is a real problem. Many police departments don’t know how to deal with mentally disturbed people and often rely on their guns, violence and jails.

This is arrogance and stupidity.

As a naturist, I believe that the anti-nudity laws being considered in Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks discriminate on the basis of creed.

Human and civil rights are not to be taken from the people or to be taken lightly by those in government.
