Quest for Community

Share

I recently moved into Los Angeles, specifically, the downtown area. I was told there was a significant and growing downtown residential “community” and I was looking forward to being part of the urban L.A. lifestyle. What I discovered was no community, no central point of contact with other area residents and no local meetings where issues of importance to the inhabitants are discussed.

Perhaps the establishment of formal neighborhood councils (Dec. 15) will provide those of us who care with a way to contribute to our communities. I hope City Hall does not allow the plan for neighborhood councils to become another example of how the bureaucratic review process killed a splendid idea. Start with pilot program areas, work out the kinks, but get it going. We are such a huge metropolis that attempting to please everyone all the time usually leads to nothing being accomplished.
