GAME OF THE WEEK

TORONTO at PITTSBURGH

* When--Wednesday. * Time--4:30 PST.

* TV--ESPN.

* Story line--Mario Lemieux, who spent much of the 1990s as the NHL’s best player and led the Penguins to two Stanley Cup championships, will play his first game since retiring at the end of the 1996-97 season. Lemieux is 35, has been skating for only one month and practicing for only the last two weeks or so. If not for the excitement centering on his return, this would be merely another easy game for the smooth-skating Maple Leafs. But Lemieux is back in action, which means all eyes will be on No. 66. If you watch only one regular-season game this season, this should be the one. It will be interesting to see if he still has the same magic.
