Pick of the Week

7 a.m. Sunday: It’s always interesting to hear the hit songs from other parts of the English-speaking world. Currently in England, Eminem, Destiny’s Child and LeAnn Rimes are all in the top 10, but there are also several groups we’ve never heard of on this side of the pond: Bob the Builder, the Tweenies and others. This weekly show checks out the U.K. hits. https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1

Today

Rock--10 a.m.: The Bloodhound Gang probably is better known for its juvenile antics than its music. At one concert, the group paid a concertgoer to strip. If you want to hear the band from a safe distance, members will be doing an online chat at https://www.broadcast.com/music/interviews.html.

Theater--1:45 p.m.: The short radio play “Dear Sarah Bernhardt” is an imagined conversation between French novelist Francoise Sagan and the famed actress Bernhardt. Vanessa Redgrave plays Bernhardt and Eileen Atkins portrays Sagan. https://www.bbc.co.uk

Rap--6 p.m.: If you’re a hip-hop performer, you might be better off not having your new record reviewed on this show. It’s called “Two Angry Listeners.” https://www.bringthenoise.com.

Saturday

Swing--3 p.m.: The J Street Jumpers perform not only Harlem swing tunes but also 1940s jump-blues and classic New Orleans R&B.; https://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/millennium

Sunday

Pick of the Week--7 a.m.: The top 10 pop hits from the United Kingdom. https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1

Waltz--3 p.m.: Perhaps the most genteel way to greet the new year is with a program of waltzes. The Salon Orchestra of Washington performs live. https://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/millennium

Hockey--5 p.m.: The New York Rangers take on the Dallas Stars in this NHL matchup. Not only can you listen to the game but you also can access real-time stats. https://sports.yahoo.com

Monday

Rock--Noon: Styx and REO Speedwagon are two 1970s bands not exactly still in their prime, but on tour together they still can pack in arena-size audiences. This concert by the two bands, which come together on stage for a big finale, was recorded in January. https://www.hob.com/live

Health--4 p.m.: A chat, hosted by a heart doctor, on pre- and postoperative treatments and transplants. https://www.eyada.com

Tuesday

Rock--Noon: Mudvayne, which released its debut album this year, wants you to be afraid, very afraid. The group performs heavy rock while wearing makeup that seems inspired by Wes Craven’s “Hellraiser” movies. Perhaps it should be called drama rock. This concert was recorded in Chicago in September. https://www.hob.com/live

Travel--Noon: Benjamin Ivry, who has lived in Paris for many years and has written biographies of Maurice Ravel, Francis Poulenc and Arthur Rimbaud, shares his thoughts about not only the City of Light but also the beaches of France. https://www.pathfinder.com/travel/TL/chat
