Yorba Linda City Council members said Wednesday that they do not expect efforts to fire the city manager to go much further in the next month, which means that the city will continue to pay two city managers until November.

Councilmen Mark Schwing and Henry W. Wedaa walked out of Tuesday’s closed session meeting just before they were scheduled to take a vote for the second time on whether to terminate City Manager Arthur C. Simonian.

According to city code, Simonian cannot be terminated until four months after the election of a fifth council member in March. Even if that member votes in favor of firing Simonian, the decision will not take effect for 90 days, according to the city manager’s contract.

Simonian was reinstated in his job by court order in November after a split council in September fired the 27-year city official amid accusations of financial malfeasance. Simonian, who is now on paid administrative leave, is scheduled to testify today in a deposition for a $300,000 lawsuit filed by the city against him. He has denied any wrongdoing.
