The city believes that marriages should be available to all residents, regardless of sexual orientation. The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to oppose Proposition 22, which would amend state law to recognize only marriages between a man and a woman. The measure will be on the statewide ballot in March. “I take pride that we live in a city that supports liberty, freedom and human rights,” said Councilman Steve Dicterow, who introduced the measure to the council. The state initiative contradicts Laguna Beach’s municipal code, which recognizes unions between same-sex couples.
