Irvine Women No Match for No. 13 Gauchos

Erin Buescher had 26 points and 13 rebounds as UC Santa Barbara defeated UC Irvine, 75-58, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Friday night at Santa Barbara.

The victory extended No. 13 Santa Barbara’s winning streak to 14 games.

Megan Stafford led the Anteaters (10-9, 3-4) with 20 points, and Wendy Gabbe scored 14.

Kristi Rohr added 13 points for the Gauchos (18-3, 6-0), Tawnee Cooper had 12 points and Nicole Greathouse had 12 rebounds.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Chapman 96, California Christian 88--Center Mike Gartner had 22 points and eight rebounds for host Chapman (16-5). Antuwan Johnson scored 29 points for California Christian (9-16).

In the New Mexico softball tournament:

CS Fullerton 10, Texas Tech 0--Christy Robitaille pitched a two-hitter and struck out four for the Titans. Yasmin Mosadeghl had two doubles and four RBIs and Dara Marzolo homered and drove in two runs for Fullerton (1-0).

In Pacific 10 Conference wrestling:

Stanford 33, Cal State Fullerton 13--Stanford recorded three pins and won 10 matches to defeat the Titans (0-9, 0-4). Senior Jason Webster had a pin for Cal State Fullerton at 174 pounds. He pinned Courtney Snelling in 3:27. T.J. Hill won by technical fall, beating Stanford’s Michael Coperman, 22-6. Stanford is 3-4, 2-4.

In Big West women’s basketball:

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 94, CS Fullerton 55--The Mustangs led from the opening tip en route to their first conference victory of the year.

Five players scored in double figures for Cal Poly (5-13, 1-5), which had its highest-scoring game since the 1994-95 season.

Fullerton (2-17, 1-6) had only seven players available. Erin Whiteside led the Titans with 17 points, shooting six of 12 from the field.

In nonconference women’s gymnastics:

CS Fullerton 193.700, Seattle Pacific 187.875--Megan Berry won the all-around title with 38.825 points for Fullerton. Berry finished first in the floor exercise (9.85) and third in the vault (9.675) and the uneven bars (9.75). The Titans’ Joanna Hughes placed first in the vault (9.875) and tied with teammate Natalia Acosta (9.80) in the bars at the Titan gym.
