GE Launches Personal Finance Web Site
General Electric Co. introduced an Internet site aimed at helping consumers manage their personal finances. The GE Financial Network, at https://www.gefn.com, joins a growing number of online services that enable consumers to do everything from invest in mutual funds to apply for mortgages. Last year the conglomerate set its sights on transferring some of its businesses onto the Internet, and it has set up smaller-scale sites to sell insurance and mortgages. The new Web site, GE’s first major online initiative aimed at consumers, includes information on annuities, auto and life insurance, loans and mutual funds. Consumers can also set up a savings account or apply for a credit card and obtain immediate approval online.
