Compromise Near on Carwash Sign

Share

Representatives of a Studio City carwash and homeowners have moved closer to a compromise over a giant sign.

Tony Lucente, president of the Studio City Residents Assn., said an attorney for Benny Forat, owner of Studio City Hand Car Wash, has offered to reduce the height of the sign by six feet, to the 20-foot level allowed, and move it 10 feet back from the road.

The sign consists of a giant hand holding a sponge topped by a pink Corvette. At 155 square feet, it is more than three times the surface space allowed.

“I’m very confident we will reach agreement,” Lucente said.

Fred Gaines, an attorney for Forat, confirmed that the two sides had agreed on the height and location of the sign, but said “There are still some differences.”

Councilman Joel Wachs, who represents the area, had warned that he would side with homeowners and oppose the sign unless a compromise was reached.
