Suspect in Attack on Ex-Beatle Must Stay in Hospital
A man accused of stabbing former Beatle George Harrison and injuring his wife was ordered Friday to remain in a medium-security psychiatric unit for eight more weeks.
Michael Abram, 33, from Liverpool, was originally admitted to the unit for immediate treatment and charged with the attempted murder of Harrison, 56, and his wife, Olivia, 51, at their home in Henley on Thames, west of London, on Dec. 31.
Harrison reportedly fought off his attacker and received slash injuries and an inch-deep stab wound that collapsed his right lung. His wife was scratched and bruised.
The incident rekindled memories of the murder of fellow former Beatle John Lennon. Lennon was shot to death in 1980 by a deranged fan in New York City.
Abram did not appear at the Oxford Magistrates Court hearing.
The case was adjourned until April 7 for medical reports to be prepared.
