Math Council Offers Teaching Strategies

Share

The Ventura County Math Council has scheduled a mini-conference at Aspen Elementary School on Thursday, allowing area math teachers, administrators and parents to exchange information, materials and ideas.

The conference offers teachers a chance to network and gain important insights about bringing math to students. For this conference, the math council will bring in the latest research and materials, as well as featured speaker Ellen Lee, who will discuss “Assessment and Accountability: The Big Picture.” Lee is past president of the Southern California Math Council.

Beverly Rueckert, who teaches math at Tierra Linda Elementary School in Camarillo, said there will also be information tables.

“We support and encourage math education,” Rueckert said. “We also support, inform and instruct teachers in the best math strategies. We believe that ‘numeracy’ is like literacy. And we’re very actively trying to get people to love math the way we do.”

The conference will run from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. Tickets are $5 for members and $15 for nonmembers, including membership. Aspen Elementary is at 1870 Oberlin Ave.
