El Concilio del Condado Presents Honors

* El Concilio del Condado de Ventura announced the winners of its 11th annual Latino Leadership Awards. The honorees and categories:

Business: Manuel Munoz of Oxnard, owner and publisher of Vida Newspaper.

Community Service: Morey Navarro of Oxnard, who helped launch the South Oxnard Business Assn., a neighborhood cleanup and beautification program.

Cultural Arts: Javier Gomez of Oxnard, founder of Teatro Inlakech and Inlakech Cultural Arts Center in Oxnard.

Education: J. Antonio Gaitan, principal of Santa Paula High School.

Health: Dr. Martha Gonzales, an advocate for Latino health issues.

Youth: Sandra Martinez, a student at Moorpark College.

Labor: Jess Herrera of Oxnard, a harbor commissioner for the Port of Hueneme and president of the Oxnard Harbor District Board of Commissioners.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Cloromino Camacho of Oxnard, president of the Community Service Organization, which was established by Caesar Chavez in 1957. The longtime community leader has provided numerous services over the years, including immigration assistance, food subsistence and English-Spanish literacy campaigns.

CLU Leaders Club Honors Member

* Dixie Vollmer of Thousand Oaks was named the 2000 recipient of the William E. Hamm Outstanding Service Award by the Community Leaders Club of Cal Lutheran University.

Vollmer was recognized for her years of service to the organization, Cal Lutheran and the community. The honor, presented annually to a club member who has shown exemplary service, is named in honor of the former CLU vice president.

Juried Art Exhibit Winners Named

* The Oxnard Art Assn. announced the winners of its juried art exhibit “Millennium,” which is on display through March 3 at American Commercial Bank in Oxnard.

They are Eva Mahria, best of show; Hannah Homberdy, first place; Debbie DeFoe, second place; David Richardson, third place, and Mary Ann Bednar and Jackie Cavish, honorable mention.
