With a booming economy and pressure on most employers to cater to its work force, the City Council is considering whether the city’s vital group of part-time employees are working too hard to be considered part-time any longer.

Some of the part-time employees are putting in full-time hours, according to a consulting firm hired to investigate part-time labor issues in the city government.

On Tuesday, the City Council looked at giving some part-time employees full-time pay and benefits.

About 30% of the city’s 473 employees are classified as part-time workers.
