Can’t Do That in Boston: I like to start the weekend with sushi on Friday night at Chaya Venice in Santa Monica. Afterward, I can usually be found up on Sunset, sitting outside at one of the outdoor spots just people-watching and feeling the buzz of the city. I was in Boston for seven years [playing for the Celtics], and I could never go outside in the winter. So I love to be outdoors to smell the air and take in the energy of the city.

Never a Dull Moment: Saturday mornings are workout time for me, especially in the summer. I run or ride or [in-line skate] the bike path, all the way up to Gladstone’s. Or, if I go the other way, I might stop in Manhattan Beach to play some volleyball. I like to have distractions when I run or exercise, so I’m not fighting the mental game of “Oh, I’m tired. I don’t feel like doing this today.” There’s a lot to see on the bike path.

Late Lunch: If I’m up in Santa Monica, I’ll usually catch lunch at Shutters. That’s my wife’s favorite place. We’ve spent weekends there. It’s a beautiful spot. Or I’ll go to Pentola, up on Wilshire, near the Third Street Promenade. It’s kind of an upscale Cheers. My money manager lives right next door, so it’s his hangout.

Homebodies: If my wife’s in town, she’ll usually cook dinner for me on Saturdays. Her lasagna rivals my mom’s--and my mom’s Italian. We love to go out, but it’s difficult. My wife’s 5-5, and before she met me she could put on a hat and blend in. But I’m 6-7, and now that we’re attached, I draw attention to her. So when we go to a restaurant, we’re not eating alone. There’s not a lot of quiet, one-on-one time.

Out on the Town: Sometimes we’re asked to go to movie premieres. I’m not a red-carpet kind of guy, but I’ll go to support my wife. And I went to the “Green Mile” premiere to support a friend, Michael Clarke Duncan. But my comfort zone is the arena atmosphere and dealing with the media one-on-one.
