Film Production

It is apparent that The Times values the corporate citizens much more than the thousands of middle-class citizens who comprise the grips, costume makers, electricians, truck drivers--the below-the-line workers of the movie industry in Los Angeles (“And the Winner Is: Change,” editorial, Feb. 14).

What is taking place up north and elsewhere is corporate welfare, movie productions subsidized by Canada, Australia, etc. While the politicians drag their feet with ineffectual bailout legislation, the Canadians and others are rubbing their hands together and building more government-subsidized studios. Work that is normally done here will leave as soon as a spot opens up.

Tariffs need to be put in place to level the playing field and stop the flow. This is not just a California problem. It affects movie production all over the U.S.
