Racism

Re “Positives About Latinos Bring Out Negatives in Some,” by Agustin Gurza, Feb. 15:

Racism is not a monopoly of the so-called “superior race.” There are races, other than the alleged racist races, countries and individuals as well who think and believe they are superior to others. To be racist is to be human. It is part of the imperfection of humanity. The truth is, there is a degree of racism in everyone--white, black, brown, yellow, red or whatever color skin one has. I am sure Gurza thinks and believes he is superior to some and in his own way prevails over them. Is Gurza a racist? Is he biased? Does he discriminate? Of course, yes.

Why don’t we talk and write about the things that unite us as a nation, instead of focusing and belaboring on those things that divide us? Emphasizing diversity only widens and deepens the chasm. After all, we are here in the U.S. because we chose to be here. And we shall rise and fall with the fortunes of this country.

E pluribus unum.
