The Ventura County Year 2000 Mock Trial Competition will get underway Tuesday at the Hall of Justice in Ventura.

The opening four rounds will begin at 5:30 p.m. and continue at the same time Thursday. At the close of the fourth round, individual awards will be handed out in the Jury Assembly Room. The top four teams will advance to the finals Feb. 28.

The winning team will compete in the state finals in Sacramento on March 31.

“They compete both nights against different teams; each round and each night has two rounds,” said Carol Cote at the county superintendent of schools office. “On one day they have to present the prosecution; on the next, the defense. The judges are actual judges, and the trial is scored by actual attorneys.”
