Animators Ignored

Share

Thank you, Charles Solomon, for your timely commentary on the snubbing of animated films (“At Awards, Animation Gets the Brush-Off,” Feb. 13).

Both “Toy Story 2” and “The Iron Giant” were two of the year’s best films, yet they received no major Academy Award nominations. I fail to understand why the artists who made these films are less worthy than their counterparts who work on “real” three-dimensional sets.

I’ve met some of the creators of “The Iron Giant” and spent time on the set of “The Green Mile,” and I saw absolutely no difference between the dedication, skill and hard work of all the people who brought these films to life. The mediums may be different, but the passion for great storytelling is the same.

It’s a shame Hollywood doesn’t recognize that.
