Doctor, Heal Thy Priorities

Share

I would be ashamed to complain about a drop [in pay] from $270,000 to $170,000 to my closest friends, but somehow our priorities are so messed up that this is a suitable subject for national dissemination [“He Wants to Hang Up Stethoscope,” Career Make-Over, Feb. 6]. Many of us still feel fortunate to be physicians and look forward to seeing patients.

Your experts advise Dr. Fred Weisman to stay in medicine rather than market his herbal product, go into an Internet business or become a physician executive. I would advise him to get out and leave doctoring to those who still want to take care of patients. And I would advise The Times to look around for more suitable subjects for its articles than physicians dissatisfied with an income that should be more than adequate.
