Re “Many Resist DNA Testing for Inmates,” Feb. 21: What all these overturns of wrongful convictions as a result of DNA testing of inmates are revealing is the prejudice, misguided ambition and/or ineptitude of law enforcement and the judicial system in all its structural elements: district attorneys, judges and, perhaps most of all, juries.

It is, of course, part of human nature to be “subjectively” resistant to or wary of new and innovative technology--especially if it improves the chance that a convicted murderer will be released back into the public.

However, we must be cognizant that there are numerous technologies and methods currently used to convict and acquit defendants. Some of these investigative tools are far less reliable (statistically) than proposed DNA testing. Fingerprint, ballistic, DNA and direct witness evidence, etc. should all be included as valid compiled data used to make an educated decision of guilt or innocence.
