Gerald S. Graber, 71, a British-born historian whose subjects ranged from Nazi Germany to the Armenian genocide. Born in London, Graber earned a master’s degree in political science/philosophy/economics at the London School of Economics and took postgraduate studies in philosophy under Karl Jaspers at Basel University in Switzerland. After moving to Southern California 20 years ago, he taught through UCLA Extension and was affiliated with the PLATO Society of UCLA. His books include “History of the SS,” published in 1978, and “Caravans to Oblivion: The Armenian Genocide, 1915,” published in 1996. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Beyette, a Times staff writer; two sons, Paul of Guildford, Surrey, England, and David of Los Angeles; and a grandson and a granddaughter. A memorial service is planned. The family asks that any memorial gifts be designated for the John Wayne Cancer Institute at St. John’s Hospital, Santa Monica. On Monday in Culver City after a long battle with cancer.
