Boeing Forms Emerging Technologies Unit

Boeing Co. said it is forming a unit to develop new ventures combining emerging technologies such as the Internet and satellite communications with its thousands of commercial airplanes. The Seattle-based aerospace giant said the unit will “serve as an incubator for new e-business initiatives in a networked economy.” The unit will look for partnerships, alliances and business opportunities across a spectrum of business areas, a Boeing spokesman said, adding that the company expects particularly strong growth in aerospace communications. Boeing stock fell $1.11 to close at $36.02 on the NYSE.
