Transparent moments

Our view of the world is often framed by windows, those of our homes, workplaces, cars. And while we may first think of looking out of them, the looking goes the other way too.

When we look in, we see personal--yet not always private--moments. Sometimes people behind a window unwittingly forget that they can be seen. But many times the uncovered window is an invitation to look.

Restaurants, exercise centers, galleries and shops want passersby to look through their windows--and like what they see enough to step inside.

Other times, uncovered windows are a way to affirm with others that we are a community, that we don’t mind being seen.

Among the snapshots in time seen through the windows of Orange County: A barber waiting patiently for customers. Newborns bringing smiles to viewers. A minister offering prayers of faith and hope. Children learning to dance. A passenger on a train waiting to reach his destination.

When we look out windows, we see the possibilities of space without limits. When we look in them, we see the drama of life.
