Producer Rick Rubin’s aborted gig with Limp Bizkit only lasted a week, but his sessions with Eagle-Eye Cherry worked out just fine, with a new Cherry album due in June or July. . . .

The final recording made by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins before his death this month was a track for a Tom Waits tribute album, to be released by independent Manifesto Records in May. Others on the album include the band Botanica (which will be at the Viper Room on March 12), whose leader, Paul Wallfisch, produced another track for singer Sally Norvell, formerly of L.A.’s Congo Norvell. . . .

Teddy Thompson, the L.A.-based son of English folk-rocker Richard Thompson, has started work on his first album for Virgin Records, with singer-songwriter Joe Henry producing. . . .
