Regarding “Seeing Baja by Sea” (Feb. 6): My wife and I took her mother on Cruise West’s Dec. 22-Jan. 2 millennium cruise. We felt so misled that we left the cruise at the first port of call (La Paz) to fly home. Maybe to an experienced cruise-goer, many things are obvious; however, to the novice they are not. Some “surprises” about which your readers should be aware:

The sea was rough, belying the placid waters in the brochure, and we got seasick the first night. We asked to leave the cruise after the captain said it could be rough the entire trip. Cruise West would not reimburse us for the unused portion of the trip.

There were four beach days originally scheduled even though December is clearly not reliably warm enough for sunning or swimming.

The doors to our staterooms could not be locked from the outside. We had cash and jewelry, which we would not have brought had we known.
