Burger King Discontinues All Pokemon Balls

With three days left in its successful but trouble-plagued Pokemon promotion, Burger King Corp. said it has stopped using plastic ball containers altogether in distributing the toys. The Miami-based chain voluntarily recalled more than 25 million balls Monday, saying they may pose a hazard to children younger than 3. The recall followed the suffocation death of a 13-month-old girl in Sonora, Calif. Burger King had continued to distribute the Pokemon toys in balls with Big Kids Meals, but the balls were no longer used in the regular Kids Meals for younger children. “There was some confusion at the stores with workers and customers, so we decided enough is enough,” Burger King spokeswoman Kim Miller said. Miller said Pokemon toys without the plastic containers will still be given with the meals through Sunday. Customers can return their Pokemon balls and receive a free small order of French fries through March 15.
