Lone Ranger

How sad to hear of the death of Clayton Moore (Dec. 29). In the 1940s the kids of my generation listened to “The Lone Ranger” on radio from 7:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Often this was the last program our parents let us hear before lights out.

The Lone Ranger and Native American Tonto very clearly drew the line between right and wrong, good and evil, justice and injustice. There was no pushing the envelope or blurring the line like today. Our peer group had real role models and heroes in the westerns of yesteryear.
