Hinojosa Scores 24, But Waves Fall

Pepperdine guard Damaris Hinojosa, a freshman from Moorpark High, led all scorers with 24 points but the Waves lost to No. 20-ranked Mississippi State, 90-80, in a nonconference women’s basketball game Monday at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.

Cynthia Hall scored 20 points and made five of seven three-point shots to lead the Bulldogs (11-0), who shot 60% (31 of 51) from the field.

LaToya Thomas also scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds for Mississippi State.

Jennifer Saari had 16 points for Pepperdine (6-6).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Antelope Valley 76, Cerro Coso 67--Brady Chelette and Jimmy White each scored 15 points for the Marauders (11-8) in a Foothill Conference opener at Cerro Coso (3-13).

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Santa Clara 56, Shandon 33--David Ramirez scored 18 points, Chris Post added 14 and the Saints (8-4) won a nonleague game at Shandon.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Oak Park 56, Chaminade 49--Jannel Buckley scored 21 points and fellow sophomore Holly Stewart had eight points, 15 rebounds and five steals for host Oak Park (5-6) in a nonleague game.

Village Christian 61, Brentwood 51--Karri Keeble had 18 points and five steals, and LeeAnn Culbertson had 11 points and 14 rebounds for host Village Christian (4-9) in a nonleague game.
