A college student convicted of killing his newborn son in Newark, Del., in a case that shocked the nation was released from prison after serving 20 months of a two-year sentence. Brian Peterson and his high school sweetheart, Amy Grossberg, pleaded guilty in 1998 to manslaughter in the death of their newborn son, whose body was found in a motel waste container. The two could have faced a death sentence if convicted of first-degree murder. Their child was born Nov. 12, 1996, near the University of Delaware, where Grossberg was a freshman art student. His prison time had been reduced for good behavior and for time served before his sentencing.
