Strong Second Half Powers Concordia Men to Victory

Concordia outplayed visiting Hope International in the middle of the second half and defeated the Royals, 73-62, in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Thursday.

The Eagles were led by senior Harald Hofmann with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Josh Giles had 19 points and five assists. Brian Vander Wal added 14 points and five assists for Concordia.

The Eagles were helped by effective foul shooting, making nine of 10 free throws in the final two minutes.

Daniel Gagnon had 15 points coming off the bench for Hope International (6-8, 0-2). Tiante Tims and Axel Magaritha combined for 25 and Jonathan Moberg added 11 points for Hope International.

Concordia (9-4, 1-1), which improved its home record to 6-1, has defeated Hope International 11 consecutive times.

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Concordia 76, Hope International 38--Led by senior Jaime Gast’s 22 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, Concordia (12-2, 2-0) won its fifth consecutive game.

Taryn Commins shot six for seven from the field to finish with 12 points and Priscilla Bendik scored six points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Eagles.

Jaime Harrison led Hope International (7-4, 0-2) with 15 points and six rebounds.

In a nonconference women’s game:

Loyola Marymount 66, UC Irvine 63--Rosa Bernascoin had 15 points and seven assists for host Loyola Marymount (7-5), which rallied after trailing by three points at halftime. Cindy Oparah scored 17 points for Irvine (7-5).
