4th-Grader Picked for Reading Panel
A Conejo Valley elementary school student has been selected to represent her peers on a statewide reading committee.
Jamie Hendry, a fourth-grader at Lang Ranch Elementary School in Thousand Oaks, is one of 15 California children on the “California Page Flippers” Kids Advisory Council. Jamie will help encourage other children in Ventura County to read outside the classroom, and will serve as a liaison between California’s children and the READ California program, a statewide initiative.
Jamie and other members of the council will talk about what they like to read, what things can make reading more fun and what might make their friends want to read more.
The children were selected by a team of judges, including the state’s First Lady Sharon Davis, singer Lisa Loeb, talk show host Leeza Gibbons and model and athlete Gabrielle Reece.
