Veteran teacher Dick Jordan will get his trip to Tahiti after all.

Since 1962, the history teacher had been inviting his students and former students to join him on the steps of the Denver Public Library on New Year’s Day 2000.

He also jokingly asked them to bring $1 each to pay for his retirement trip to Tahiti.

More than 100 came, from all over the country, each bringing the $1, and in some cases more.

Awed by the display of love and support from his former students, Jordan, 60, gave the $750 to a soup kitchen.

Then Air France called this week, saying it wanted to fly him to Tahiti, all expenses paid.

Delta Airlines is chipping in too, and will get Jordan and his wife, Irene, to Los Angeles for the flight to the South Pacific.

The two plan to take the trip during the spring break.
