Rev. Earl J. Meyer; Pastor at House of Worship

The Rev. Earl J. Meyer of Ventura died at home Thursday. He was 79.

Meyer was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Black Fork, Ark., and was a 40-year Ventura County resident after moving from Lamont.

Meyer began serving in the ministry at the age of 15 as an evangelist in Texas and California. He served for 40 years as pastor of the House of Worship on Main Street in Ventura.

Meyer dedicated his life to church work and was described by his family as a loving and compassionate man.

Meyer is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Meyer of Ventura; two sons, Larry Meyer and Ken Meyer, both of Ventura; three sisters, Beulah Scarbro of Baytown, Texas, Ophelia Roach of Houston, and Bertha Whitefield of Mount Pleasant, Texas; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m today at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura, with services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Leonard Fox will officiate.
