Troy Scores First 42 Points in 105-23 Win Over Buena Park

Troy raced to a 42-0 lead and went on to defeat Buena Park, 105-23, in a Freeway League game Wednesday at Troy.

Veronica Johns-Richardson had 14 points, 11 assists and seven steals. Katie Hardeman scored 24 and Stefanie Schilling contributed 12 points and nine steals for the Warriors (14-3, 2-0), who took over the No. 1 spot in the county rankings this week.

In other Freeway League games:

Sonora 63, Fullerton 11--Brandi Davis scored 14 points, Cathy Ngo had 10 points and five steals and Mindy Clark had eight points and six steals for Sonora (10-8, 1-1).

Sunny Hills 65, La Habra 40--Kim Mackeande scored 15 points and Kristen Fong added 13 for Sunny Hills (8-9, 2-0). Randy Dato led host La Habra (1-0 in league) with 13 points.

In the Academy League:

Fairmont 48, Orangewood 36--Sonia Hilson scored 16 for Fairmont. Orangewood (1-2 in league) got 18 points from Tiffany Nasralla.

In the Garden Grove League:

Los Amigos 63, Bolsa Grande 39--Katie Vindhurst scored 12 of her 20 points in the second quarter as Los Amigos (2-2 in league) built a 10-point halftime lead.

Debby Baeder scored 18 points for Bolsa Grande (3-12, 1-2).

Pacifica 70, La Quinta 10--Dominique Valencia was the game’s high scorer with 18 points for host Pacifica (9-7, 3-0). Valencia also had seven steals. Diana Barreras scored 15 points and had 11 steals and seven assists for the Mariners.

Santiago 55, Rancho Alamitos 26--Kelly Chavez paced Santiago (11-7, 3-0) with 15 points and five steals. Rancho Alamitos (3-13, 0-3) trailed, 22-9, at halftime.

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Glendale Academy 51, Heritage Christian 44--Ai Dye had 15 of her 23 points in the first half as Heritage Christian (0-12) led at halftime for the first time this season, but Glendale Academy (3-6) outscored Heritage, 30-19, in the second half for the victory.
