Council OKs $2.80 Refund Per Household
After applauding the city’s “prudent budgeting,” the City Council unanimously passed an ordinance this week that will save residents approximately $2.80 per housing unit. The ordinance lowers the city’s utility users tax 1%.
A Financial Review Committee last year determined that a reduction of the tax from 5% to 4% was possible in light of the city’s surplus in general funds. Council members believed residents could benefit as the result of the city’s healthy financial condition.
The city ordinance states “because of a thriving economy in the city, the City Council desires to provide remuneration to the residents and taxpayers of the city.”
Also, the ordinance states that public utility companies will be notified of the reduction before Feb. 1 and the reduction in taxes is to occur no later than April 1.
